Tragedy at Covenant School: Community Mourns Loss of Six Lives in Nashville Shooting

 


 Yesterday(28/Mar/2023), a tragic event occurred at the Covenant School in Nashville, Tennessee. A 28-year-old woman named Audrey Hale entered the school and killed three 9-year-old students and three adults before being shot and killed by police. The victims have been identified as Evelyn Dieckhaus, Hallie Scruggs, William Kinney, Cynthia Peak, Katherine Koonce, and Mike Hill.

According to police, Hale was a former student at the school and had maps of the building, a manifesto, and had scouted a second possible attack location. The incident is the 19th shooting at a school or university so far this year in which at least one person was wounded.



The community is devastated by the tragic event that occurred at the Covenant School in Nashville. Nashville and Tennessee elected officials have released statements expressing their devastation following the shooting that killed three children and three adults. At-large Metro Council member Zulfat Suara tweeted “As a parent, the last place you will expect your child to be hurt is at school. I cannot imagine the pain. Praying for the families involved.” At-large Metro Council member Bob Mendes stated "This is shattering".

Director of Metro Nashville Public Schools Adrienne Battle said in a statement "As a parent, as an educator, as a human being, I’m grieving today over the tragic murder of children and school staff right here in our community. My heart goes out to the entire Covenant School community and the parents grieving the unimaginable loss of life today".
